Imprinted Concrete
Imprinted concrete or ‘maintenance free’ driveways have their own set of problems. Over time, and particularly areas exposed to frequent foot or vehicle traffic can start to wear and lose the original seal. This results in loss of colour and a patchy surface. If left for a significant amount of time, this will become stripped back to the bare concrete and will begin to crumble losing the shape and pattern of the imprint. It is advisable to apply 2 top up coats of sealer every 3-5 years to avoid this from happening. Other common problems are cracks forming. This is caused by movement in the driveway and can vary from a small hairline crack to a much larger separation.
Restoration Process
The pressure cleaning process is a necessary part of the preparation for restoring imprint surfaces. However this will effectively take more of the surface seal away. In fact, pressure cleaning alone is the equivalent of around 5 years of natural weathering! This is why it is essential to apply a top up of sealer after any cleaning is carried out.
Once the area is completely clean and free of any debris, a crack repair compound can be applied to any areas of noticeable damage. This will be followed by an application of imprinted concrete sealer and colour tint to restore and protect the surface. Once dry, a final coat of sealer and anti-slip additive will be applied.
As well as multiple colour choices, this can also be applied in a matt, silk or gloss finish giving an all round stunning look and visual aesthetics of a brand new driveway or patio!
