 Block Paving

One of the most common problems and unsightly issues with block paving is the growth of weeds in between the bricks. Along with organic settlements , this can lead to the build up of moss, algae and lichen. In short, block paving is the highest maintenance surface for homeowners and contractors and would essentially need cleaning on a yearly basis

Restoration Process

Firstly all weeds will be treated with I high strength weed killer to ensure there are no live roots left behind. Once this has taken full effect, a high pressure deep clean can be carried out including clearing out all weeds, moss and sand from between the bricks. Once dry, fresh kiln dried sand can be brushed back in for stabilisation and a perfect finish.

Further to this process, we would recommend the application of a high quality block paving sealant. This will not only protect the surface of the blocks but will also bond the jointing sand and inhibit the weeds from re-surfacing, meaning that ‘just cleaned’ look can last for up to 5 years!

Benefits include:

  • 3-5 years protection
  • Waterproofs paving and restricts growth of algae/lichen
  • Solidifies jointing sand and inhibits weed growth
  • Resists oil stain penetration
  • Eliminates ant colonies
  • Prevents loss of jointing sand
  • Stabilises paving
  • Restores/enhances natural colour
  • Increased lifespan
  • Easier maintenance
Excel Cleaning Natural Stone Cleaning Before Steps

Natural Stone

Natural stone patios and driveways can be the most beautiful to have, however when left exposed to the elements, surfaces such as sandstone can become the most unsightly! Due to the porous nature of the stone, it can become a breeding ground for bio-contaminants with black spot lichen being the most prevalent.

High pressure cleaning can be detrimental as this will open up more pores within the substrate making the surface more susceptible to lichen growth. This lichen can become so deeply embedded that pressure cleaning alone will not suffice.

But all is not lost!

Restoration Process

With the use of steam and carefully selected soft wash chemicals, we are able the remove these contaminants and restore your sandstone back to its former beauty. Once clean, a soft wash biocide can be applied to leave a residual sanitisation and prevent the re-colonisation of black spot lichen.

Alternatively, a high quality impregnating sealer can be applied for long term protection. This works by filling the microscopic voids within the substrate of natural stone, creating a waterproof barrier on the surface. These sealers can be applied in an invisible or colour enhancing finish that will deepen the natural colours of sandstone or limestone creating amazing results and visual aesthetics!

Benefits include:

  • Closes pores and protects from lichen and algae growth
  • Creates waterproof barrier
  • Enhances colour or retains natural look
  • Protects for 3-5 years

 Imprinted Concrete

Imprinted concrete or ‘maintenance free’ driveways have their own set of problems. Over time, and particularly areas exposed to frequent foot or vehicle traffic can start to wear and lose the original seal. This results in loss of colour and a patchy surface. If left for a significant amount of time, this will become stripped back to the bare concrete and will begin to crumble losing the shape and pattern of the imprint. It is advisable to apply 2 top up coats of sealer every 3-5 years to avoid this from happening. Other common problems are cracks forming. This is caused by movement in the driveway and can vary from a small hairline crack to a much larger separation.

Tarmac

Over time, tarmac driveways can fade and crack due to UV sunrays and general weathering. What was once a nice crisp surface can now look dull and drab. The most common problem with this type of surface is its susceptibility for moss growth and this can become very unsightly.

Restoration Process

High powered pressure washers are not recommended for tarmac as this can often lead to further damage. We would firstly pre-treat the surface with a soft wash biocide to kill any pre-existing moss. This will make the cleaning process easier and allow for lower pressure to be used. After the surface is thoroughly cleaned, any cold lay repairs can be carried out before applying 2 coats of tarmac restorer. This will rejuvenate and transform your tarmac back to its original condition when first laid and offer lasting protection from grease, oil, algae growth and UV damage. These benefits can be seen for 3-5 years!

Benefits include:

  • Transforms the appearance of existing tarmac
  • Replaces lost resin
  • Restores original colour
  • Protects against UV damage
  • Avoids the need for expensive replacement
  • Long term protection, reduces future tarmac repair
  • Covers unsightly cement, oil stains or marks
  • Reduces stone loss and increases life span of the tarmac
  • Waterproofs and protects
  • Resists oil and grease
  • Resists fungicidal and algae growth

 Decking

Just like any exterior surface, timber care is also a must and essential element in maintaining its longevity. If left untreated, decking can become weak and rotten. Whether visible or not, decking is susceptible to algae growth. When wet, this can become very slippery and potentially dangerous, this is why it is essential to be kept clean and protected.

Our pressure cleaning or soft wash service can provide you with the peace of mind that your property is safe for both yourself and your family but also guests/customers or tradespeople in all weather conditions.

Restoration Process

We recommend a soft wash or low pressure steam cleaning when it comes to the restoration of decking but both can be combined for best results. High pressure cleaning can result in splintering or striping of the wood, so due care must be taken in the cleaning process.

Once cleaned and prepared, the decking can now be treated with a high quality decking oil. We recommend this over a paint or staining as the oil will penetrate into the wood as opposed to a surface stain that can potentially flake or peel. Decking oil comes in different shades but most commonly used would be a clear oil. This will darken the wood and accentuate the grain, leaving it looking healthy, hydrated and very pleasing to the eye!

Benefits include:

  • Protects and waterproofs decking
  • Contains UV filters to prevent fading
  • Revives weathered and greying decking
  • Enhances the natural beauty of the timber
